John was talking with his pastor, a fellow MDR Volunteer, Michael Gamble, and was asked what he enjoyed doing in life. John's response was that he found joy in working hard, sweating, and getting dirty. After this conversation, Michael knew exactly where John belonged and introduced him to the MDR Team. Shortly thereafter, John had signed up for the Relief Team and had been on several deployments.

John spends his time outside of MDR with his wife and as the volunteer maintenance director for his church as well as serving on non-profit boards.
